FREE PABLO

Everyone has those friends, guys and gals you've lost touch with, only see once every few years or so, that you will forever love. It's probably been 1000 days since I've last seen Pablo, but I can still pull up a mental image of his ENORMOUS smile in a nanosecond's notice. He is truly one of those genuine people you can never forget, never fault, never stop caring for. Pablo however has the one disadvantage of not being born in this country. The Land of the Free has strongarmed him into a corner; and it couldn't be more unfair.

Excerpt from The Greenpoint Gazette:

Pablo Airaldi, founder and owner of fledgling bike shop Greenpoint Bikes, is now under the threat of deportation after a string of unusual events, two years of detainments and continuous court dates and ten years of trying to move past a mistake he made when he was eighteen years old. Now, the Greenpoint community is rallying around him to raise money for legal fees, provide a comprehensive support system and do everything in their power to make sure he stays in the United States, and in the neighborhood.
Airaldi was born in Uruguay and moved to the United States when he was seven years old, along with his mother, who married a U.S. citizen. Since then, Airaldi has lived as a legal resident here. In 2002, Airaldi pleaded guilty to a crime upon the counsel of a public defender without understanding the possible ramifications to his status as a legal resident. Upon pleading guilty, he was issued two years probation and a 545-day jail sentence, which was subsequently suspended indefinitely. Since 2002, Airaldi has had a clean record, lived in several cities throughout the United States and opened his own business on Manhattan Avenue. However, in 2008, when Airaldi tried to travel to Canada with friends, he was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and told that his status as a legal resident was in jeopardy. He was incarcerated, but released on a $3,000 bond. Since then, he has had mandatory court dates every three months, and is now being held in a detention center in New Jersey awaiting a trial that may or may not result in his deportation. If deported, Airaldi—who is considered under immigration law to be an aggravated felon, making him vulnerable to deportation—will be sent back to Uruguay, a place where he has no friends or family, and does not speak the language.

More info on Pablo's case can be fond on Pablo Airaldi Updates.
And in his own eloquent words on Dearly Deported.

Machu Picchu

Dang. This was some amazing Peruvian food.

A stir fry type assemblage of beef, onions, and french fries served next to a pad of wild rice all under two fried eggs and a fried plantain. Our glamorous model, Alicia, much enjoyed it.

"No it's NOT like any other love, this one's different because it's us..."

Many future-wives attempt and succeed at recording the preparation steps and leadings up-to of their wedding. I am not such a person. How is that even possible?! I've got a million things on my plate, cakes to bake, and dogs to feed; why would I bother telling you all about it?

My future-wife experience was not interesting at all. No camera crews, no mental breakdowns, no near break-ups... I supposed after living together in sin for 5 years you've already been through these things in one way or another. Here is basic sequence of events for you.

There was a family oriented bridal shower:

A not so family oriented bachlorette party:

A standard, secular rehearsal:

Still single:

aaaaaand MARRIED:

Our friends were there, of course:

Here's a little bit of 'awwwwwww' for you... The log in this upcoming photo is a very, very old Redwood in Washington, it's part of some national park exhibit. You may or may not recall that Cru and I got engaged this past Valentine's while on vacation in Washington. You should by now be aware of our obsession with Twin Peaks; we totally walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of the Peaks' theme song. Are you realizing yet that on the very day of Cru's Lynchian proposal we were standing right by another log of that very same Redwood tree? Yeah, that's romance!

Snoqualmie Falls, WA

DANIELLE + CRU WERE HERE 2010

KYLE + DAVID WERE HERE 1990

Sorry for that detour back to February and television shows, let's regroup here.
I know, it's beautiful:

We untied the Cole Haan's before driving off:

THE BEST PART!!! DARK CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY ALMOND CAKE!!!

aaaaaand now it's legal:

Let the drinking commence:

Mazletov everyone! I love you!

Wretched metatarsal...

Top 5 Things I Hate (this week, resulting in my broken foot and subsequent cabin fever):

1. Mel Gibson, this has been a long time coming. I was never a big fan, more of Kurt Russell gal myself. But you've truly outdone yourself.

Random thing I love; Mel Gibson's agency, WME has dropped him.

2. MONSANTO

Go ahead and Google them if unfamiliar, but don't bother with their site, it's genetically modified.

3. My ugly toes. I haven't had a pedicure in months. I look like I'm going for a Guinness record, one of the the disgusting ones. Sure I could paint my own nails, but quite frankly I don't like to. I'd rather pay someone else to do it. Heal you damn foot!

4. Dog poop. I love everything about my dogs, and it's not their fault. I'm too doped up and half crippled to walk them and pay sufficient attention to them. Wobbling around the house picking up their #2's is my cross to bear.
(4 1/2. People who don't know when to use bear vs. bare...)

5. My $0.00 paycheck. Enough said.

Here Lies Dobby, a Free Elf

Why am I so obsessed with Harry Potter? Because the only family who ever wholeheartedly loved me is too dead and gone? Because I too had an uprooted life void of friends until near adulthood? Whatever it is about this handsome orphan boy; it certainly has captivated me since Book 1.

Where has the time gone?!

3 1/2 months away to Mrs. Sooo busy! Amazing house at an amazing price fell in our lap, too good to pass up... 3 1/2 months away from home-ownership.

And now, just because:

There's a fish in the percolator!

Damn fine cup of coffee.Action shot, thanks babe. The Story of The Double R Diner... I'll never be able to call it Twede's. Unfortunately, there was a pretty bad fire in 2000, so not much of the original interior is still there. And the uniforms are a lil different, naturally; I doubt those blue dresses are still being manufactured anywhere.

in case you Google yourself

Aziz Ansari, hot, porno, nude, sexy, bad boy of comedy, Parks, Human Giant, Raaaaaaaandy, rollerblade, Harris, Darwish, Kanye, Slumdog... did that work? Try it at googlingwithkittens.com for an adorable experience. I'm more of a dog person, but still have a heart.

Aziz is Bored is a hilarious, insightful, thought-provoking blog. I know I can't get enough of it! I think I'll add it to this site right now... Yes, this post was just a test to see if googling Aziz + any of the above adjectives would lead you (possible Aziz) to this blog. This is not an important test. I'm just a huge fan and think it'd be pretty awesome if Aziz left a comment here; hint. This test may be a failure, but what the hell right?

15 days!

Doing some reminiscing of vacations past... I love leaving town, even if it's just a few days. Just to feel like different people in different cities, not so unlike where we live, just different. Like the parallel universe episode of The Twilight Zone.
American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore
Oh! Not that Robert Smith! Thank heavens...
Mmm... Cafe Hon coffee...
Best omelette of my life; swiss, provolone, spinach and tomato without the skimping
"All my life I wanted to look like Elizabeth Taylor. Now Elizabeth Taylor looks like me."
Al Capone's cell at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia
Me and my date of course, at the Smithsonian in DC.
